Tanzania eases visa procedures for Nigerian nationals

Tanzania has removed Nigerian passport holders from its referred visa category, effectively easing the travel process for Nigerian nationals. According to an announcement by the Tanzania Immigration Services Department, the change follows amendments published in Government Gazette No. 246 of 2026 and took effect immediately.

Under the previous system, Nigerian travelers were subject to a referral visa arrangement that required special approval from the Office of the Commissioner General of Immigration. This often necessitated submitting applications at least two months in advance.

Nigerian citizens will now follow Tanzania’s standard visa application procedures. This includes applying through the official online immigration portal or obtaining a visa at designated entry points. While the removal from the referred category simplifies the process, Nigerian nationals are not exempt from visa requirements and must still obtain approval through standard channels.
