Tanzania eases visa procedures for Nigerian travelers

Tanzania has removed Nigeria from its ‘Referred Visa Category’, simplifying the immigration process for Nigerian travelers. According to a public notice from the Tanzania Immigration Services Department, the change follows amendments published in Government Gazette No. 246 of 2026 and took effect immediately.

Previously, Nigerian nationals were required to undergo an additional immigration clearance process, necessitating advance applications and specific approvals before making travel arrangements. Under the new rules, Nigerian passport holders can utilize Tanzania’s standard visa application procedures through official channels. While this change reduces administrative hurdles, it does not grant visa-free entry; Nigerian citizens must still obtain the appropriate visas required by Tanzanian law.

The policy shift is expected to facilitate increased movement for tourism, business, education, and conferences. It may also benefit sectors such as aviation, hospitality, and tourism, while providing easier access for investors and businesspeople traveling between the two nations.
