Tanzania expands wildlife protection and invests in higher education infrastructure

The Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) has graduated 268 new officers following six months of military training at the Mlele Conservation Force Training College in the Katavi region. The training curriculum included weapon handling, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), physical fitness, human rights, and wildlife control. Officials stated the new personnel are intended to bolster anti-poaching efforts and enhance security within protected areas to support the tourism and investment sectors.

Separately, the Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) has seen a 52.7 percent increase in student enrollment, reaching 37,397 students for the 2025/26 academic year. The Tanzanian government has invested 67.9 billion shillings into TIA's infrastructure over the current administration's five-year term. This investment includes 27.8 billion shillings via the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project, with significant funds directed toward new infrastructure in Singida and Mwanza. The expansion has also seen the institution grow from six campuses to eight, including new locations in Tanga and Zanzibar.
