Tanzania eye medical camps provide free surgeries and care

Specialized eye medical camps are providing free services across Tanzania. In Zanzibar, Muhimbili National Hospital, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, and Qatar Charity have launched a medical camp at the Sebuleni Health Centre in the Mjini Magharibi Region. The initiative, running from August 29 to September 4, 2026, offers eye examinations, medication, and glasses. Notably, it features modern small-incision cataract surgery performed via a specialized surgical vehicle, a first for the country.

In the Tanga Region, the Lalji Foundation and Baraka Foundation, in collaboration with Vision 4 All Eye Center, conducted a three-day free eye camp in the Korogwe Town Council. The camp served 3,259 citizens, including 333 surgical patients, of whom 291 were treated for cataracts. Additionally, 1,723 people received medication and 1,706 were provided with reading glasses to address local eye health challenges.
