Tanzania intensifies forest conservation and restoration efforts

Tanzania is intensifying its forest conservation and restoration efforts through various national and international initiatives. The Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) is leading several localized projects, including a tree-planting campaign in the Kondoa District and a major initiative in the Kaliua District to raise one million seedlings to restore degraded forests in the Western Zone.

To promote environmental awareness, the Serengeti Rally of Tanzania 2026 was held at the Morogoro Tree Plantation, using motorsport as a platform to educate the public on the importance of forest protection.

On a global scale, the Committee on Forestry (COFO), the highest intergovernmental body on forestry within the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), recently met in Rome. The session emphasized the need for increased technical and financial investment, including the use of cloud-connected technologies, to combat wildfires, forest degradation, and climate change impacts.
