Tanzania mandates online health declarations for all international travelers
Tanzania has implemented a mandatory online health declaration for all travelers entering the mainland, effective October 17. The Ministry of Health introduced this measure to strengthen border sanitary surveillance following concerns regarding Ebola cases in East Africa.
All international arrivals, including tourists from Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East, must complete the Traveller Health Surveillance Form via the official AfyaMsafiri platform. Travelers are required to present a confirmation QR code or reference number to health authorities upon entry. While the platform recommends submission within 24 hours of arrival, the form can be completed before departure.
The new regulations apply to international airports, seaports, and land borders in mainland Tanzania; Zanzibar maintains separate health declaration arrangements. While the measure does not impose a general travel ban, authorities have increased health screenings, including temperature checks and symptom assessments. Travelers identified as high-risk may undergo additional medical examinations and a 21-day health monitoring period.
