Tanzania Premier League to debut FIFA-approved FVS system at Dar Derby
The Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) has announced new technological and safety measures for the upcoming Kariakoo Derby between Simba SC and Yanga SC, scheduled for October 10, 2026, at Uhuru Stadium.
Tanzania has received approval from FIFA to become the first league in the world to implement a specific Football Video Support (FVS) reporting system. Starting with the Dar es Salaam Derby, the TPLB will submit reports for 150 selected matches out of 240 this season to FIFA for monitoring. Under the new rules, each team bench will be allocated two cards to request an FVS review, which must be signaled within 60 seconds of an incident.
In addition to the video technology, safety protocols will include the use of gas detectors at Uhuru Stadium to monitor air quality and detect hazardous gases. TPLB Chief Executive Officer Cornel Barnabas emphasized that these measures aim to enhance officiating accuracy and fan safety. Fans are urged to purchase tickets early, as stadium capacity is strictly limited and spectators must remain in designated seating areas.
