Tanzania prepares for Russia-Africa Summit amid economic and security concerns

As the Third Russia-Africa Summit approaches in Moscow, scheduled for October 28–29, 2026, Tanzania faces the challenge of converting diplomatic promises into tangible economic benefits. Discussions between the two nations have expanded across sectors including agriculture, mining, energy, digital systems, and education. To ensure meaningful outcomes, experts suggest Tanzania must present specific priority projects—detailing required investment, expected job creation, and local participation—rather than relying on general political declarations.

Security concerns regarding the summit have also emerged due to the increasing frequency of drone attacks in the Moscow region. Following significant drone strikes in September and October, questions have been raised regarding the safety of civilian aviation in the area. Air Tanzania briefly suspended its Dar es Salaam-Moscow route in early September following a risk assessment, though it resumed flights shortly after under diplomatic and commercial pressure.
