Tanzania Prime Minister praises Qatar’s clean energy transport

Tanzanian Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has commended the government of Qatar for its advanced use of technology and clean energy in its public transportation systems. During a three-day working visit to Doha, Nchemba met with Qatar’s Minister of Transport, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Thani, to discuss the operations of the transport company MOWASALAT.

Nchemba noted that Tanzania could benefit from Qatar’s expertise to address domestic traffic congestion. He highlighted the importance of clean energy, aligning with the initiatives of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and noted that such advancements would be particularly useful as Tanzania prepares to host AFCON 2027.

According to Minister Al Thani, MOWASALAT provided services to 42 million people in 2025, operating 1,200 vehicles across 128 routes. Notably, 70 percent of the fleet utilizes electric power. The company also employs 722 Tanzanians, providing them with opportunities to gain technical skills in the transport sector.
