Tanzania private sector targets 70% economic contribution under DIRA 2050

Tanzania is implementing its DIRA 2050 (Development Vision 2050) economic plan, which aims for the private sector to contribute 70 percent of the economy. To support this, the Tanzania Private Sector Federation (TPSF) is prioritizing investment mobilization, public-private partnerships, and business reforms to create a more predictable environment for growth.

Under the Fourth Five-Year Development Plan, the private sector is expected to finance approximately 334 trillion Tanzanian shillings in development investment over the next five years. To facilitate this, the TPSF recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Public Private Partnership Centre (PPPC) to improve investor awareness and project preparation.

In a parallel discussion at the Africa Infrastructure Forum in Dar es Salaam, Africa50 and Stanbic Bank Tanzania emphasized the need for the continent to reduce its reliance on external funding. Officials called for deepening domestic bond markets and scaling up regional financial institutions to bridge the infrastructure gap. Experts highlighted the importance of African-led financing solutions and innovative models, such as infrastructure asset recycling, to unlock local capital.
