Tanzania promotes evidence-based decisions and risk management

The Tanzanian government is emphasizing the importance of evidence-based decision-making and robust risk management to improve public service delivery and institutional efficiency.

At the fifth national Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) week conference in Arusha, Deputy Speaker Daniel Sillo, representing Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, stated that monitoring and evaluation should serve as management tools to identify challenges early and measure goal implementation. He noted that leaders must use real-time data for daily decisions rather than waiting for year-end reports. The government is also training specialists through initiatives like M&E Champions and the Tanzania Young and Emerging Evaluators to drive change.

Separately, at the 19th Administrative Level Internal Audit meeting, Acting Government Internal Auditor General Kenneth Nindie highlighted the need to strengthen risk management within public institutions. He emphasized that improving internal audit capacity through continuous training and online learning is essential for protecting public assets. Nindie stressed that cooperation between boards, management, and auditors is vital to ensure public resources are used productively for national development.
