Tanzania to launch Integrated National Digital Library System

Professor Adolf Mkenda, the Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, is expected to serve as the guest of honor at the Fourth National Conference on Improving Library Services. The event is scheduled to take place from October 20 to 22 at the National Library grounds in Dar es Salaam.

Dr. Mboni Ruzegea, Director General of the Tanzania Library Services Board (TLSB), stated that the conference will focus on enhancing library services through digital transformation to promote knowledge and skills for sustainable development. Key highlights include the launch of the Integrated National Digital Library System and a mobile application designed to allow citizens to access library services via smartphones.

The initiative aims to simplify access to publications and information through technology, aligning with national digital trends. While the digital system will not provide every book online due to copyright protections, it will expand accessibility. Additionally, the conference will introduce improvements to library service laws and regulations, allowing stakeholders to provide feedback on implementing services in a digital environment.
