Tanzania Vice President announces land reforms and education investments
Tanzanian Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi has highlighted several government initiatives focused on agricultural protection and educational infrastructure development.
In Mbarali, Mbeya, the government is working to reclaim the Highland Estate, a 6,000-acre farm valued at 30 billion Tanzanian shillings. The government has already released 10 billion shillings toward the acquisition to bring the land under state management. The goal is to allow small-scale farmers to lease the land at affordable rates. The Vice President instructed the Minister of Agriculture to ensure that only genuine farmers benefit and to prevent powerful individuals from exploiting the process or reselling leased land at inflated prices.
In Iringa, Vice President Ndejembi laid the foundation stone for new buildings at Mkwawa University College of Education (MUCE). This project is part of the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project, supported by a 425 million USD investment from the World Bank. MUCE is set to receive over 30 billion shillings to improve learning environments and expand capacity for higher education students.
