Tanzania Vice President orders reduction in cement prices

Tanzanian Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi has directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to coordinate with cement producers to ensure widespread availability and a reduction in prices. Speaking in Dar es Salaam following the President's Award for Best Industrial Producer (PMAYA) ceremony, Ndejembi noted that citizens are currently facing high costs due to production coordination failures.

The Vice President ordered the Ministry's Permanent Secretary and the Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) to resolve the issue and provide a report to President Samia Suluhu Hassan. He emphasized that the government aims to ensure affordable cement for the average Tanzanian.

Ndejembi also highlighted the growth of the industrial sector, noting that industrial sector growth reached 5.2 percent in 2025 compared to 4.2 percent in 2024. The manufacturing sector's contribution to the GDP reached 5.9 percent in 2025, and it is estimated to account for 12 percent of formal employment and exports.
