Tanzania Water Minister demands deadline adherence for 53bn Shilling Tanga project

Tanzanian Minister of Water, Jumaa Aweso, has ordered the contractor of a 53.12 billion Shilling water project in Tanga to increase manpower and work day and night to ensure completion by November 30, 2026.

During an inspection of the project, including a large water tank in Mowe, Aweso emphasized that no time extensions will be granted. He noted that the project is approximately 75 percent complete and stressed that since funding is already available, there are no excuses for delays.

The project is being implemented using bond financing, serving as a model for the Ministry of Water to utilize alternative funding sources to strengthen water services. This initiative aligns with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directive for public institutions to secure alternative revenue streams to ensure reliable water supply, even during technical issues or power outages.
