Tanzanian art exhibition to open at Venice Biennale
The Venice Biennale will host an exhibition titled ‘Mimi. Wewe. Noi.’ (I. You. We.) at the United Republic of Tanzania National Pavilion from November 6 to 15, 2026. The showcase features photographs documenting the arrival of Michelangelo Pistoletto’s ‘Terzo Paradiso’ project in sub-Saharan Africa.
The project manifested as a mural at Rosemary Primary School in Tosamaganga, Tanzania, created by artists Happy Roberts and Frank Chillo alongside local children. The initiative, which explores the balance between nature and artifice, was supported by the Italian Embassy in Tanzania and documented by photographer Mariana Arrieta Ibarra.
In addition to the photography, the exhibition includes ‘Hope Ubuntu,’ a work by the artist Avvassena. Created from drawings made with school children in September 2024, the piece uses natural cotton shapes connected by red thread to reflect the African philosophy of Ubuntu, which emphasizes that identity is formed through relationships with others.
