Tanzanian officials lead sanitation drives in Arusha and Kilosa

Local government officials in Tanzania are leading sanitation drives in Arusha and Kilosa to improve public hygiene and prepare for potential weather impacts.

In Arusha, District Commissioner Joseph Mkude led a cleaning exercise at the Kilombero Market. The initiative follows a directive from President Samia Suluhu Hassan to strengthen environmental safety. Mkude issued a warning regarding potential heavy rains caused by El Niño, urging citizens to clear drainage systems and trenches to prevent flooding and ensure water can flow freely.

In Kilosa, District Commissioner Shaka Hamdu Shaka led a similar cleanup at the main bus stand and market area. The exercise involved various community members and government officials. Shaka emphasized that leaders must lead by example and issued a mandate requiring all local business owners to maintain waste containers at their premises to prevent future littering.
