Tanzanian Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba Announces Student Loan Scheme and Agricultural Research Funding

Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba said the Tanzanian government will examine the possibility of providing loans to young people enrolled in short‑term courses at the National Institute of Transport (NIT). He noted that lack of financing has prevented many capable students from attending, and the government will act on the institute’s request. Nchemba also praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s Samia Scholarship programme, which funds high‑performing students regardless of their economic background, and highlighted a recent investment of roughly 70 billion shillings to upgrade NIT’s infrastructure, including new classrooms and teaching facilities.

In Dodoma, the prime minister laid the foundation stone for the main offices and a modern laboratory of the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI). He urged civil servants to fulfill their duties and emphasized that investing in agricultural research is the correct path for sector transformation. Nchemba cited the President’s support and ongoing construction projects, noting that the mining sector contributed about US$2.8 billion to the national budget in the previous fiscal year.
