Tanzania's NHIF urges citizens to enroll in health insurance
The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) of Tanzania is urging the public to join the health‑insurance scheme before they fall ill, warning that unexpected medical costs can force families to deplete savings or sell assets. The call was made by Angela Mziray, Manager of Marketing and Customer Service at NHIF, during the National Smallholder Exhibition in Dodoma. Mziray highlighted that the universal health‑insurance law guarantees every Tanzanian access to medical care without financial barriers and that members can receive services at a wide network of public, private and faith‑based facilities. She stressed that regular, modest contributions protect families’ finances and enable them to focus resources on productive activities rather than emergency health expenses. The campaign aims to raise awareness among farmers and other community groups about the benefits of early enrollment and the legal mandate for universal coverage.
