Tanzania's TANESCO utilizes local experts for Imalilo substation project

Tanzanian Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has commended the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) for utilizing local experts to construct the Imalilo substation and the transmission line from Shinyanga to Simiyu. The decision to use domestic specialists follows previous challenges encountered with the original contractor.

During an inspection in Simiyu, TANESCO Managing Director Lazaro Twange reported that the Imalilo substation project is 82 percent complete. The project has a total cost of 27 billion Tanzanian shillings, with 15 billion shillings already utilized by the government. The substation is expected to be completed within a year.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of completing the 110-kilometer transmission line from Ibadakuli, Shinyanga, to Imalilo to ensure the substation can provide immediate service. Once finished, the project is expected to improve electricity access and stimulate economic investment in the Simiyu and Mara regions.
