Taobao Flash Purchase uniform wins French Design Award Gold

The Taobao Flash Purchase City Knight uniform has been awarded the Gold Award at the 2026 French Design Award ceremony held in Paris. This marks the first time the award has granted a gold prize to a professional uniform designed for frontline workers.

The design team, led by Yang Tao, included non-professional designers such as catering and hospitality workers. The project was heavily influenced by Alibaba founder Jack Ma, who reportedly participated in discussions regarding rider safety during night cycling, long-term wearing comfort, and the inclusion of first-aid equipment. The design aims to provide delivery riders with a clear professional identity and foster social respect for their role.

This initiative aligns with Taobao's expansion into the instant retail sector. As of the second quarter of 2026, Alibaba's instant retail business in China reached 53.295 billion yuan, representing a 45% year-on-year increase. The uniform serves as a mobile brand symbol within the urban delivery network.
