Taoiseach Martin challenged in Dáil over racism advisor remarks

During the return of the Dáil, Independent Ireland TD Ken O’Flynn challenged Taoiseach Micheál Martin regarding the status of Dr. Ebun Joseph, the Special Rapporteur on Racial Equality and Racism.

The controversy stems from remarks made by Dr. Joseph, who suggested that Irish language requirements for teachers should be removed to allow more qualified candidates into the profession. She also faced criticism for comments suggesting that immigrants and current residents collectively “redefine” and “redesign” the country, stating that “every generation inherits a country.”

O’Flynn questioned whether the government maintains confidence in the taxpayer-funded official, arguing that her remarks serve to inflame division rather than reduce it. In response, Taoiseach Martin stated he would examine the remarks within their proper context.
