Taoyuan Aviation City targets PCB expansion to meet AI demand
The surge in AI server demand is driving a significant expansion of the high-end IC substrate industry in Taiwan. Major PCB manufacturers, including Unimicron, Compeq, and Tripod Technology, are seeking additional land to meet customer orders for the next five years, as existing capacity in areas like Yangmei and Guangfu is insufficient.
To support this growth, the Taoyuan City Government is promoting the Taoyuan Aviation City project. The city plans to sign a memorandum of understanding with these companies and the Taiwan Printed Circuit Board Association (TPCA) in October. The Aviation City offers up to 100 hectares of land, utilizing surface rights rather than direct sales to allow companies to allocate more capital toward facilities and advanced equipment.
Infrastructure development is also underway to support the industrial hub. The C1 sub-project, a 5.07 billion TWD initiative, is working to connect the Aviation City with the Qingpu Special District and National Highway No. 2. This includes essential construction of roads, bridges, drainage, and sewage systems to ensure the region is ready for industrial operations and improved regional connectivity.
