Taoyuan Celebrates 10‑Year Sister‑City Tie with Japan’s Chiba Prefecture

On 27 July 2026, Taoyuan Mayor Zhang Shanzheng and Chiba Prefecture Governor Kumagai Toshito held an online ceremony marking the tenth anniversary of the sister‑city agreement signed in 2016. The event highlighted ongoing cooperation in culture, agriculture, transport and sports, including recent student sushi‑making workshops, a joint rail memorandum between Taoyuan Metro and Keisei Electric Railway, and Chiba’s plans to feature Taiwanese dishes in local restaurants.

Mayor Zhang thanked Chiba for its COVID‑19 aid, noting the donation of protective equipment, and presented a commemorative hairpin crafted from Taoyuan’s peach blossom and Chiba’s rapeseed flower. Governor Kumagai responded with a custom collage poster and expressed hopes for increased travel and trade as Narita Airport expands its runway capacity.
