Taoyuan City surpasses one million households

Taoyuan City has officially become Taiwan's fifth city to surpass one million households, reaching 1.001 million as of May. This milestone was achieved in just 2 years and 7 months since the city recorded 900,000 households in October 2023.

This growth rate significantly outpaces other major cities. For comparison, Taipei took over nine years to grow from 900,000 to one million households, while Taichung and Kaohsiung took approximately 6 years and 7 years, respectively. Experts suggest Taoyuan's rapid expansion is driven by its relatively affordable housing compared to the Taipei-New Taipei area, ongoing improvements in transportation infrastructure like the MRT and railways, and the development of new residential zones.

Notably, the surge in households has not been matched by a proportional increase in population. While households grew by approximately 100,000, the population only increased by about 33,000 during the same period. Analysts attribute this discrepancy to changing family structures, such as an increase in single-person and small households, alongside a market trend toward smaller residential units.
