Taoyuan family pays fine to prevent property seizure over drunk driving debt

A 77-year-old man in Taoyuan faced the seizure of his property after failing to pay a 120,000 TWD fine for unlicensed drunk driving committed in 2022. The Taoyuan Police Department reported that this was the individual's third offense within a ten-year period.

Following the non-payment, authorities seized approximately 40,000 TWD from the man's bank account and initiated the process to freeze his 40-year-old residence in Pingzhen District. To prevent the property from being auctioned, the man's granddaughter contacted officials and paid the remaining 70,000 TWD in cash to resolve the debt and lift the seizure.
