Taoyuan gas explosion injures worker after construction ruptures pipeline

A gas explosion occurred on Zhongzheng Road in the Taoyuan District of Taoyuan City on the afternoon of August 22. The incident was triggered when road construction workers accidentally ruptured a gas pipeline, leading to a gas leak and subsequent explosion.

A 48-year-old employee of the Xintao Gas Company, identified by the surname Liang, sustained injuries during the incident. Emergency responders reported that he suffered first-degree burns to his head and neck, and second-degree burns to both upper limbs. He was treated on-site and transported to Jingguo Minsheng Hospital; he remained conscious during transport.

The Taoyuan City Fire Department deployed seven firefighters, two fire engines, and one ambulance to the scene. Firefighters utilized water lines to provide protection and mitigate the leak. Local police cordoned off the area and implemented traffic controls to ensure public safety. The leak was successfully contained by Xintao Gas Company personnel by 2:58 p.m., after which the immediate danger was cleared.
