Taoyuan Metro Green Line completes driverless test, aims for year‑end opening

On 27 April, Taoyuan Mayor Zhang Shan‑cheng inspected a fully automated driver‑less run on the city’s Green Line, travelling from G11 Arts & Culture Station to G15b Pit‑mouth Station. The test, conducted with Siemens’ signalling system, was described as smooth and comfortable, and marked the first line‑wide demonstration of autonomous operation.

German Siemens traffic‑transport global head Mirna Harms attended the trial and said, “I am honored to witness the results.” The system has now passed key verification, with fire‑safety equipment, elevators and escalators receiving certification. Remaining work on accessibility facilities and pipeline approvals is expected to be completed by mid‑September. The priority segment G11–G15b is slated for opening before the end of the year, supported by international partners Siemens (Germany) and Hyundai Rotem (South Korea).
