TAP Air Portugal reported a net loss of 99.2 million euros for the first half of 2026, a 40% increase compared to the 70.7 million euro loss during the same period in 2025. This financial decline is primarily attributed to a sharp rise in fuel costs, which increased by 18.7% over the semester, with a significant acceleration of 52.3% in the second quarter due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Despite the losses, the airline achieved record passenger numbers and revenue growth. TAP transported 8.2 million passengers, a 4.2% increase from the previous year, and saw operating revenues rise by 4.3% to 2,039.8 million euros. Ticket revenues also grew by 4.4% to 1,829.2 million euros, driven by strong demand in Europe and South America.

Simultaneously, the Portuguese government is evaluating binding offers from Lufthansa Group and Air France-KLM for the acquisition of a 44.9% stake in the airline. Lufthansa aims to establish Lisbon as a strategic hub for the South Atlantic, while Air France-KLM intends to support TAP's strategy and expand maintenance and engineering activities in Portugal.
