Tapachula Municipal Archive holds significant historical collections

The Municipal Archive of Tapachula, Chiapas, holds one of Mexico’s most significant documentary collections. The archive contains manuscripts dating back to 1826, as well as maps and photographs that document the historical development of the city and the Soconusco region.

Carlos Román García, director of the General Archive of the State of Chiapas, noted that Tapachula is a primary pillar of the state's documentary heritage alongside San Cristóbal de Las Casas and Comitán. The collection includes valuable cartographic materials, such as maps and photographs from the early 20th century that document the city's urban life and the tram system that operated between 1908 and 1930.
