Tapestry restructures retail network for Coach and Kate Spade
Tapestry is undergoing a significant restructuring of its retail network for its two primary brands, Coach and Kate Spade. During the 2026 fiscal year, the group closed 64 directly managed stores, consisting of 24 Coach locations and 40 Kate Spade locations.
Despite these closures, the company expanded its footprint in certain areas. Coach opened 66 new stores, bringing its total to 973 locations, up from 931 the previous year. In contrast, Kate Spade opened only six new stores, resulting in a net reduction of its network from 360 to 326 locations.
The strategic shift aligns with divergent financial performances: Coach saw a 14 percent increase in sales during the fourth quarter, driven by marketing and specific product lines, while Kate Spade experienced a 7 percent decline in sales. To address Kate Spade’s performance, Tapestry recently appointed Jonathan Saunders as executive creative director.
