TAPI México invests 140 million pesos to expand oncology drug production in Lerma

TAPI México announced a 140 million‑peso investment to enlarge its Lerma, State of Mexico plant, aiming to boost domestic production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for oncology medicines. The first phase, starting this year, allocates 40 million pesos from the company and 100 million pesos from a partnership with a national supplier to develop 5‑fluorouracil, a key ingredient for cancer drugs. A second phase planned for 2027 will add another 60 million pesos to increase capacity for additional product lines.

The expansion is expected to create ten specialized direct jobs and about 250 indirect jobs during construction and start‑up. The plant, the company’s only facility in the Americas, already supplies APIs for 68 medications and exports to Canada, the United States, the European Union, South America and Japan, complying with FDA, Cofepris and European regulations. Officials from the Secretariat of Economy highlighted the project’s alignment with Mexico’s plan to strengthen national drug research, development and production.
