Tar Lazio invalidates authorization for Ecosystem waste plant

The Tar Lazio administrative court has ruled in favor of Rida Ambiente, declaring the 2019 regional authorization for the Ecosystem waste treatment plant in Lazio illegitimate. The ruling, number 15910/2026, addresses the plant's capacity to process non-hazardous and hazardous waste.

The court found that the facility lacked the necessary technical characteristics to correctly manage the organic component of unsorted urban waste. Specifically, judges noted the absence of a biological stabilization phase required to manage moisture, reduce odors, manage leachate, and control gas production. This decision aligns with previous observations from Arpa Lazio, which had highlighted the lack of a dedicated line for organic waste stabilization during the initial authorization process.
