Taraba State University ASUU begins indefinite strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter at Taraba State University has commenced an indefinite strike as of Monday, October 12, 2026. The industrial action is a protest against the Taraba State Government's failure to implement the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU remuneration agreement and the non-payment of salary arrears accumulated since January 2026.

Union chairman Dr. Joshua Garba Mbave stated that the strike follows months of negotiations. Although a verification committee assessed the salary structure and submitted its report on September 24, 2026, the union claims the government has failed to act. ASUU-TSU previously suspended planned strikes to allow the government more time, but cited continued delays as the reason for the current action. The union maintains it remains open to sincere and timely dialogue to resolve the dispute.
