Taraba traders killed in military vehicle crash

Five traders were killed and several others injured on Wednesday when a military vehicle crashed into a busy market in Chanchangi town, located within the Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The vehicle, a Hilux belonging to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari, was reportedly escorting traders from Wukari to Takum to provide security against frequent kidnappings and killings along the route. Witnesses stated that the victims were among those displaying their goods by the roadside when the vehicle lost control and rammed into them.

The deceased and the injured were transported to Takum General Hospital. The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army in Jalingo, represented by Acting Public Relations Officer Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, stated they are investigating the matter. The Taraba State Police Command is also working to confirm the exact casualty figures through the Takum Divisional Police Officer.
