Tarakan prepares free water and food aid for prolonged drought

The Tarakan City Government is preparing emergency measures to address a prolonged drought expected to last until early 2027 due to the El Nino phenomenon. During a coordination meeting led by Mayor Khairul, officials discussed strategies to ensure clean water availability and food security.

To assist affected residents, the local government will provide free water supplies. Citizens experiencing shortages are encouraged to report through their local neighborhood heads (RT) to ensure rapid and accurate distribution. Additionally, officials are monitoring potential impacts on health and the economy, with plans to distribute food aid to those most vulnerable.

Meteorological data from BMKG suggests that while North Kalimantan currently experiences short dry spells, the peak of the drought conditions requires early anticipation to prevent widespread crisis.
