Tarang Shakti 2026 air exercise features record women pilot participation
The Indian Air Force is hosting Tarang Shakti 2026, a multilateral air combat exercise currently underway in Jodhpur and other locations across Rajasthan. The second edition of this flagship exercise involves eight participating air forces, including India, the United States, France, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, with 32 additional countries represented by observers.
A notable feature of this year's drills is the record participation of women officers from the Indian Air Force, with more than 25 women flying fighter jets and other aircraft alongside approximately 125 male pilots. Officials emphasized that the scale of participation reflects operational competence and gender-neutral service standards.
The exercise includes over 80 aircraft and approximately 1,500 personnel. Participating platforms include F-35s, F-16s, Rafales, and the German Air Force’s Airbus A400M. The drills aim to enhance interoperability and tactical capabilities through large-force engagements involving both fighter jets and transport aircraft.
