Taranto Arsenal: Union calls for hiring and investment

The FP Cgil union has called upon the Italian Navy to implement an extraordinary plan for the Taranto Arsenal, citing a critical shortage of personnel. During a meeting with Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto, union representatives Mimmo Sardelli and Pietro Avellino emphasized that the current reduction in staff threatens to increase workloads, hinder generational turnover, and lead to a loss of specialized expertise.

Beyond hiring technical and administrative staff, the union is advocating for increased industrial investment to revitalize internal activities. Proposed strategic projects include the development of a large-caliber workshop, the creation of a new hauling area, and the enhancement of internal laboratories to reduce reliance on external contractors. Additionally, the union suggested innovative developments such as the production of naval drones for port surveillance.
