Taranto council faces political clash over commission re-election

A political conflict has intensified in Taranto following the re-election of Giovanni Tartaglia as president of the IV Services Commission. Councilwoman Bianca Boshnjaku has criticized the Democratic Party (PD), arguing that their participation in the secret ballot vote implies political responsibility for the outcome.

Boshnjaku, who remains a member of the PD despite having left its council group, claims that Tartaglia previously made derogatory remarks regarding her origins. She asserts that the party has failed to provide adequate responses to her complaints.

In response, Tartaglia has defended his re-election, stating that the council's support demonstrates that the confidence of fellow councilors carries more weight than social media criticism. He dismissed the accusations of misogyny and racism as baseless, suggesting that private conversations were being misrepresented for political purposes and indicating a willingness to resolve the matter through legal channels.
