Taranto-Grottaglie Airport faces delays in commercial flight plans

Political representatives in Puglia are criticizing the regional government for failing to advance plans to allow commercial passenger flights at the Taranto-Grottaglie airport. It has been alleged that neither the Puglia Region nor Aeroporti di Puglia has submitted a formal request or an industrial and organizational program to the Ministry of Transport to change the airport's classification in the National Airport Plan.

Critics suggest that the lack of progress may be due to efforts to protect established economic interests surrounding Bari airport, which could be impacted by the opening of a second passenger hub in the Taranto province. Calls have been made for the regional government to convene meetings to address the development of the Ionian hub.
