Taranto police arrest Georgian woman for illegal reentry
A 43-year-old Georgian woman was arrested in Taranto after attempting to report a lost passport. Investigations by the State Police and the Immigration Office revealed that the woman was subject to a three-year expulsion decree issued in 2024 by a prefecture in northern Italy.
Authorities determined that the woman had entered Italy clandestinely using a false name and forged documents. Police discovered the deception through biometric database checks, which identified her unique identification code as belonging to another Georgian citizen with the same birth date who was under an expulsion order.
Prior to this incident, the woman had been repelled at the border during a check on a bus in Trieste. She subsequently traveled through Turkey using a fake passport to re-enter Italy. The case has been referred to the competent judicial authorities.
