Taranto police uncover 180,000 euros in illegal electricity connections

Police in Taranto have conducted intensive inspections to combat illegal electricity connections and irregularities in energy supplies. Supported by technical personnel from Enel Distribuzione, the operations targeted the Paolo VI district and various commercial activities in the area.

In the Piazzale 2 Giugno area, authorities inspected three buildings, resulting in criminal charges against 25 individuals for suspected electricity supply irregularities. Investigations are ongoing for four additional people.

In the city center, inspections of commercial businesses revealed tampering. A grill house was found to have a bypass installed upstream of the meter to evade consumption measurement. A pizzeria linked to the same owner showed similar electrical system tampering. Additionally, an illegal connection via a bypass was discovered in a private residence in Martina Franca belonging to the same entrepreneur, who has been referred to the judicial authorities for suspected aggravated theft. The total economic damage identified from these activities amounts to 180,000 euros.
