Taranto stakeholders discuss SalvaMare Law implementation

A roundtable discussion organized by The International Propeller Club – Port of Taras addressed the implementation challenges of the SalvaMare Law (Law no. 60 of May 17, 2022) in Taranto. The law aims to protect marine ecosystems by allowing fishermen to recover waste accidentally collected during their professional activities in seas and internal waters.

Experts, legal professionals, and institutional representatives highlighted that collecting waste is only the first step. Significant difficulties remain regarding the management of materials once they reach land, specifically concerning classification, delivery, and disposal procedures. The discussion emphasized the need for better coordination between administrative authorities, port infrastructure, and waste management services to ensure that environmental protection efforts do not conflict with economic activities like mussel farming.
