Taranto unions demand urgent safety upgrades on Litoranea Salentina road
The trade unions FILT‑CGIL, FIT‑CISL, UILTRASPORTI and FAISA‑CISAL have renewed calls for immediate action to remedy critical safety problems on the Litoranea Salentina stretch between Maracaibo Beach and the Pulsano direction in the municipality of Taranto, Italy. They say the poor road conditions have persisted for more than three years, causing severe traffic congestion, long queues and dangerous situations for passengers on the local public‑transport service (CTP). A police inspection on 3 July confirmed the unions’ complaints, noting the impact on service regularity and driver safety. The unions criticize the lack of response from the Taranto city administration, recalling a formal request made to the prefect on 22 June that has yet to be answered, and they warn that the issue must be resolved before the upcoming Mediterranean Games, when mobility demands will increase.
