Taranto waste tax hike criticised by Giampaolo Vietri

Regional councilor Giampaolo Vietri of Fratelli d'Italia denounced the announced increase of the waste collection tax (TARI) in Taranto, saying families and businesses will face rises of up to 8% despite the city’s “still‑dirty streets, abandoned rubbish and neglected peripheries”. He added that the exemption for out‑of‑town university students is also being removed, adding further financial strain on households.

Vietri accused Mayor Bitetti’s administration of raising taxes without improving the service, calling for a dedicated municipal council meeting on the management of Kyma Ambiente (formerly Amiu) to boost transparency, efficiency and restore protective measures for families.
