Tarapacá Deputy Ximena Naranjo Warns of Traffic Safety Gaps Ahead of San Lorenzo Festival

Deputy Ximena Naranjo, representing the Tarapacá region, raised urgent concerns over the lack of a road‑mitigation plan for the upcoming San Lorenzo religious festival, which attracts more than 100,000 pilgrims. She highlighted that the municipality’s request, sent in April, for a contingency plan at the critical junction of Route 5 North and the Humberstone bridge has received no response from national road and public‑security authorities. Naranjo warned that without coordinated signage, traffic control units, or pre‑planned detours, the influx of visitors could cause severe congestion or accidents during the festival’s peak days.

The deputy said she will use her parliamentary tools to press the relevant ministries for an immediate response, stressing that improvising safety measures is unacceptable for an event of this size and significance.
