Chile and Colombia issue weather and water quality alerts

Authorities in Chile and Colombia have issued various emergency alerts due to weather and water quality concerns.

In Chile, SENAPRED has declared a preventive early warning for the Tarapacá and Arica y Parinacota regions. Forecasts indicate snow in the mountains, moderate rain in the foothills and Pampa del Tamarugal, and potential electrical storms. There is also a moderate risk of landslides and debris flows in certain precordillera areas. A series of weather fronts are expected to move from north to south, bringing rain, snow, and frost to various regions.

In Ipiales, Colombia, the water utility Empoobando has declared a red alert following an investigation into an outbreak of acute diarrheal disease (EDA). Authorities determined that water from the Blanco River and Pozo Versalles is not suitable for direct human consumption without prior treatment. While the water supply remains active, residents are advised to boil water before consumption. The company is prioritizing water delivery via tankers to hospitals, clinics, and educational institutions.
