Tarcísio de Freitas targets 2027 for Sorocaba-São Paulo train contract
São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas announced plans to finalize the contracting process for the Intercity Train (TIC) connecting Sorocaba and São Paulo by 2027. During a visit to the Campinas-São Paulo rail works in Vinhedo, the governor explained that the administration has opted for a “competitive dialogue” procurement model. This approach allows the government to discuss project improvements directly with the market before final proposals are submitted.
The Sorocaba-São Paulo axis is part of a broader long-term strategic plan to expand the state's passenger rail network. De Freitas indicated that future projects could include connections between Sorocaba and Campinas, Campinas and Ribeirão Preto, and Sorocaba and Bauru, with a planning horizon extending to 2050. Other developments currently in progress include rail links between São Paulo and both Santos and São José dos Campos.
