Tareck El Aissami's lawyers denounce his forced disappearance

Lawyers for former Venezuelan Oil Minister Tareck El Aissami have formally denounced his ‘forced disappearance,’ stating his whereabouts have been unknown since August 29. The legal team reported that El Aissami’s wife was denied access to him at the Rodeo I prison in Miranda state without justification.

Defense attorney Mercedes Berthé stated that legal representatives visited multiple detention centers, including Simón Bolívar, Fuerte Guaicaipuro, and the Military Police at Fuerte Tiuna, but officials at these locations refused to provide information. The defense has submitted formal written inquiries on August 31 and September 9 but has received no response regarding his physical location.

The legal team expressed urgent concern for El Aissami’s health, noting he suffers from serious medical conditions that require specialized treatment and surgical interventions. They claim his medical situation has deteriorated due to inadequate assistance and the interruption of family and legal visits.

El Aissami remains in state custody due to his alleged involvement in the PDVSA-Cripto corruption case, facing charges including treason and money laundering.
