Tareq Rahman announces direct online payments for retired teachers

Prime Minister Tareq Rahman announced that retired teachers will no longer face bureaucratic hurdles or corruption to access their welfare benefits. Speaking at the Osmani Memorial Hall in Dhaka, the Prime Minister stated that funds from the Private School, College, and Madrasa Teacher-Employee Welfare Trust and the Retirement Benefit Board are now being transferred directly to teachers' bank accounts online.

During the ceremony, it was reported that 70,119 retired teachers received payments for the first time since 2022. The Prime Minister attributed the previous four-year delay to the former administration, alleging that the previous government looted these funds through fraudulent indexing and by moving money to weak banks.

The current administration noted that while funds were limited, special measures were taken to ensure these payments. The Prime Minister also honored the legacy of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, noting her role in establishing these welfare funds in 1991 and 2002 to provide financial security for educators.
